A roundup of a few recent stories from the press about Vanderbilt University Medical Center.

The New York Times science correspondent Denise Grady interviewed William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, for a story about troubles in the Philippines over the dengue fever vaccine Dengvaxia, and potential impact on other vaccine manufacturers and on public confidence internationally in vaccines.

Consumer Reports associate editor of health and food Catherine Roberts interviewed William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, for a story about the various mumps outbreaks occurring across the country. Schaffner also spoke to Consumer Reports for a story about the new shingles vaccine.

An Associated Press story, picked up by other outlets including U.S. News and World Report, details a study by Vanderbilt and University of Minnesota researchers indicating that transgender people are more likely to lack health insurance than those whose gender corresponds to their sex at birth.

Reuters Health science writer and editor Anne Harding interviewed Loren Smith, MD, assistant professor of Anesthesiology, for a story about her Journal of the American Heart Association study of acute kidney injury after cardiac surgery.
