eStar updates and changes

New Unit of Mass for Surgical Patients in Storyboard

Beginning July 28, a new unit of mass will display for weight documentation in Storyboard. This will help improve the accuracy and consistency of weights for surgical patients. The change will impact all surgical and procedural users (including cardiology and radiology).

Storyboard will now display Weight and Dosing Weight in kilograms (kg) only. Hovering on the weight displays the weight in both kilograms and pounds.

Users should be careful to enter patient weight in kilograms, not pounds.

COVID Vaccines in Children's Hospital

Beginning July 28, the COVID-19 vaccine will now be offered to Children's Hospital inpatients 12 years old and greater as part of the admission process. This will help VUMC continue to address the COVID-19 pandemic.

The screening process will be completed by a nurse during the admission process. The nurse will document if the patient has already received vaccine, is unsure, or unable to assess due to cognitive or medical impairment.

Clinicians will see an inline best practice advisory (BPA) with vaccine screening results and will be given the option to either order the vaccine for the patient or indicate the reason for not ordering.

The vaccine will be administered by a nurse just prior to discharge. The nurse receives a discharge BPA reminder that vaccination has not been administered. It will indicate that the COVID vaccine can be taken two hours before discharge. The nurse then requests the COVID vaccine dose from pharmacy.

Users should remember that only the first dose is offered through the screening workflow. Please review Tip Sheet Screening, Ordering, and Administering COVID Vaccine -VCH for more information.

New Intake Process/Storyboard Indicator for Fall Risks

Beginning July 28, there is a new screening process and Storyboard indicator for fall risks. This update will help enhance patient safety and will impact all users.

There is a new tab in Intake for Fall Risk Assessments (appears for all patients ages 65+). The new screening tool is taken from the CDC’s STEADI Toolkit. If patients answer “Yes” to any question, they will screen positive and are considered “at risk” for falling. The indicator then appears on the patient Storyboard – all care team members should look at the Storyboard for Fall Risk.

Ordering Labs with New Timed Priority

Beginning July 28, there is a new priority for ordering labs, which indicates labs that need to be drawn at a specific time. This change will help streamline lab orders and will impact all users who order labs.

When certain labs are ordered, the specific Once Timed frequency can be selected prior to signing order of labs, giving the order a timed priority. Please review Tip Sheet “Ordering Labs with New Timed Priority for more information.
