CBS This Morning on Friday aired a story about safety measures for COVID-19 vaccine trials featuring Kathryn Edwards, MD, scientific director of the Vanderbilt Vaccine Research Program.

ABC News, NBC News, STAT, Nashville Business Journal, NPR senior health care reporter Blake Farmer, WTVF NewsChannel5 and Science Magazine covered the story or interviewed Todd Rice, MD, associate professor of Medicine and director of VUMC’s Medical Intensive Care Unit, about VUMC being awarded a one-year, $34-million grant by the National Center for Advancing Translational Sciences, part of the National Institutes of Health, to conduct a nationwide study of “convalescent plasma” as a treatment for COVID-19.

Wall Street Journal reporter Peter Loftus, Inside Higher Ed correspondent Elizabeth Redden, Newsweek chief reporter Jenni Fink, Yahoo News reporter Korin Miller, Medpage Today reporter Stephanie Stephens, ABC News reporter Nancy Anoruo, National Geographic reporter Laura Parker and USA Today reporter Adrianna Rodriguez interviewed William Schaffner, MD, professor of Preventive Medicine, for stories about flu season, coronavirus and the chemical oleandrin as a possible cure for COVID-19. Schaffner was also interviewed by CNN, Philadelphia Inquirer, Fox News, and CNBC for stories about schools reopening and coronavirus.

 Physician’s Weekly, Becker’s Hospital Review, News-Medical.net and WTVC in Chattanooga interviewed Stephen Patrick, MD, director, Center for Child Health Policy, for stories about his JAMA Network Open study about pregnancy and opioid use disorder.

Reader’s Digest reporter Mandy Gardner interviewed Loren Lipworth, ScD, research professor of Medicine, for a story about whether there will be a second coronavirus virus wave.
