Vanderbilt University School of Medicine students launch fundraiser for hospitals in India
There are still many medical centers in India with unmet needs. Vanderbilt University School of Medicine (VUSM) students are seeking support to help alleviate some of these challenges. All funds will be directed to the Chinmaya Mission [http://www.chinmayamission.com/covid-19-fund/], an organization that works directly with numerous hospitals throughout India to purchase necessary equipment and provide financial relief.
“As many are aware, COVID-19 has disproportionately affected different parts of the world. Most recently, India has been hit with a profoundly devastating second wave of the virus, with current averages of over 200,000 cases per day. This situation has affected my family directly and the families of many of our peers, colleagues, and friends. Motivated to help my home country, my classmate Maddy Ball and I have worked together in partnership with the VUSM Deans to begin a fundraising effort for COVID-19 relief in India,” said Shreyas Krishnapura, a member of VUSM class of 2024.
“We hope to raise funds to purchase supplies such as medical-grade oxygen concentrators, test-kits, and N95s that can be directly delivered to medical centers in need. The fundraiser will be open for about one month, and we kindly encourage everyone to consider donating to this effort and sharing the fundraiser through social media. As VU medical students, we have the ability to come together as a community to provide support in direct, tangible ways. We believe that with support we can make a significant and meaningful impact.COVID-19 has demonstrated the strength and resilience of the VUMC/VUSM community, and we know that if we work together, we can overcome this crisis as a global society,” said Madeleine Ball, a member of VUSM class of 2023.
