VUMC to offer COVID vaccine to all adult inpatients at VUAH
Starting today, VUMC will offer COVID-19 vaccinations to all adult inpatients at Vanderbilt University Adult Hospital (VUAH) in an effort to improve community COVID-19 vaccination rates. The process will include standardized screening by nursing staff on admission to the hospital. After evaluation for medical exclusions, patients may elect to receive the Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine prior to discharge. In addition, inpatient providers at VUAH may order COVID-19 vaccinations as needed outside of this standardized process. Patients will be provided with a COVID-19 vaccine information sheet and the CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card. All patients will be provided with information about how to access outpatient COVID-19 vaccination sites for first or second doses as part of their discharge After Visit Summary (AVS).
VUMC leadership is working to also expand COVID-19 vaccine access in the near future to patients who are seen and released from the emergency departments and to those patients who qualify at other VUMC hospitals.
