Overview:
VUMC may submit one application to the Dr. Scholl Foundation Grant Program.
The Dr. Scholl Foundation is dedicated to providing financial assistance to organizations committed to improving our world. They value innovation, practicality, hard work and compassion. The foundation’s grant program offers 1 year grants of $5,000 to $25,000 in the following areas:
- Education
- Social Service
- Healthcare
- Civic and Cultural
- Environmental
The categories above are not intended to limit the interest of the Foundation from considering other worthwhile projects. In general, the Foundation guidelines are broad for flexibility in providing grants.
Examples of previously-funded healthcare projects include: nurse leaders programs, palliative care/education, pediatric cardiology fellowships, physician training in pediatric psycho-oncology, psychiatry residency training, cancer outreach programs, diabetes projects, underserved women’s health initiatives, etc.
Eligibility Requirements:
The Dr. Scholl Foundation does not consider funding to the following:
- Political organizations, political action committees, or individual campaigns whose primary purpose is to influence legislation
- Grants for loans, operating deficit reductions, the liquidation of a debt or general support
- Grants to individuals
- Grants are rarely made to endowments or capital campaigns.
- Event sponsorships including the purchase of tables, tickets or advertisements

Internal Application Process:
Anyone interested in being considered as VUMC’s nominee must submit the following (in PDF format) to LSO@vanderbilt.edu by 5 p.m. on Feb. 13, 2020.
- Brief (2 page maximum) research plan including summary budget;
- Statement of support from department chair/center director;
- NIH Biosketch
