eStar updates and changes: transfusion reactions and "mark as reviewed" smart link

The latest changes and updates to eStar:

New Electronic Form for Transfusion Reactions

To improve the compliance and documentation of transfusion reaction screenings, a new electronic form to document Transfusion Reaction will appear in eStar. The new form will be available February 12. The new form will impact all procedural/OR areas except during the intraoperative phase.  Intraoperative will continue to use a paper driven process

  • Upon a reaction to a transfusion, providers will enter the order for a transfusion reaction screen (LAB893) as usual
  • Nurses will print a label for specimen, fill out the transfusion reaction screening form in eStar, and send the specimen to the lab.
  • The form is automatically printed in the Blood Bank
  • Down time forms are still available in eDocs.

For more information, a quick start guide (QSG) “Electronic Transfusion Reaction Form Process” is available in Hubbl.

“Mark as Reviewed” Smart Link

On February 12, a new smart link will be available in eStar. The new smart link will mark items as reviewed without providers having to leave their note. This includes:

  • Problems
  • Medications
  • Allergies
  • Medical history
  • Surgical history
  • Family history
  • Social history

This feature works for both inpatient and outpatient. A provider can load the “.MARKASREVIEWED” smart link and choose from a smart list of the items they have reviewed.
