Children with hearing loss needed for study of processing of sounds during sleep
The Auditory Development Lab at Vanderbilt University is recruiting children with bilateral cochlear implants (CIs) between 2 and 5 years of age to participate in a research study that examines how children with hearing loss process sounds while sleeping. All parts of the study can be completed in one day, and for participating, you will receive $50 (mailed check) and one age-appropriate book for your child.
In this study, children will be asked to do the following:
• Complete behavioral, cognitive and/or audiological testing (lasting less than one hour)
• Listen to sounds (nonsense words) while taking a nap in our research lab
- Your child will be asked to take a nap while leaving his or her CI turned on
• Then, after your child naps, visit our EEG lab that afternoon -- this is where we will be able to tell if your child processed the sounds played while sleeping.
If you are interested in participating, email adrienne.s.roman@vumc.org for more information.
